What GRS Verifies

The Global Recycled Standard, managed by Textile Exchange, verifies recycled content and the responsible practices behind it - through an annual third-party audit.

  • A minimum of 20% recycled input to certify; the exact percentage of recycled cotton used in the fabric is verified and tracked.
  • Recycled material is traced from source through every production stage to the finished bag.
  • Fair, safe working conditions for our workers at each site.
  • Responsible use of water, energy and waste in processing.
  • Restrictions on hazardous chemicals throughout production.

How to Be Sure Your Bags Are Genuinely Recycled

Two checks separate a real recycled claim from an unverifiable one. Ask any supplier for both.

  • The supplier must hold a valid GRS Scope Certificate in their own name – and should confirm in writing that they will renew it if it expires before your shipment date. No supplier can claim recycled content without one.
  • The scope certificate is necessary but not sufficient. Each individual order should be accompanied by a TC issued by a Certification Body, confirming that your specific order is made from recycled materials.

What You Can Tell Your Customers

GRS lets you back a recycled claim with documentation. Here's what it lets you say.

"Contains GRS-certified recycled cotton"

(matched to the recycled content in your order)

"Made from verified recycled materials, with chain-of-custody documentation"

"Third-party audited recycled content, with a Transaction Certificate for every order"

We provide the GRS scope and Transaction Certificates you need for your marketing team, your ESG reports and your procurement records. Just ask during the quoting process.
