OCS-Certified Organic Cotton Bags - Verified Organic Content, Fully Traceable.

Norquest is an OCS (Organic Content Standard) certified manufacturer of organic cotton bags, supplying brands, retailers and buying houses in 62+ countries. OCS independently verifies how much organically grown cotton is in your bag and traces it through every stage - so your organic claim is backed by a Transaction Certificate for each order, not just stated. We were one of the early adopters of organic-content certification in India.

What OCS Verifies

The Organic Content Standard, managed by Textile Exchange, verifies the amount of organically grown material in a product and tracks it through the supply chain - through an annual third-party audit and a Transaction Certificate for each order.

  • Verifies the exact percentage of organically grown cotton in the fabric – from 5% up to 100%.
  • The organic material is traced from the certified farm through every production stage to the finished bag.
  • Each order is backed by a TC issued by an accredited certification body, confirming the organic content of that specific shipment.
  • Certification and volume reconciliation are checked annually by an accredited body.

OCS vs GOTS (and vs GRS)

Buyers often confuse these. They verify different things.

  • Verifies organic content and traceability only – how much certified-organic cotton is in the bag – without the processing, environmental or social criteria. If the fabric is a blend (say 70% Lyocell and 30% organic cotton) it will not meet GOTS, but OCS will still certify and confirm the 30% organic cotton content.
  • Certifies organic fibre and the environmental and social criteria of processing (chemicals, wastewater, labour). It is the fuller organic standard, but is only available when organic content is at least 70% (“made with organic”) or 95%+ (“organic”).
  • The recycled equivalent – the same chain-of-custody model, but for recycled (not organic) content.

Norquest holds OCS, GOTS and GRS, so you can specify verified organic content (OCS), full organic processing (GOTS), or recycled content (GRS) - each with a Transaction Certificate.

How to Verify OCS Organic Cotton

Two checks separate a real organic claim from an unverifiable one. Ask any supplier for both.

OCS Scope Certificate

The supplier must hold a valid OCS Scope Certificate in their own name, from an accredited certification body. No supplier can claim OCS organic content without one.

OCS Transaction Certificate (TC)

The scope certificate is necessary but not sufficient. Each individual order should be accompanied by a TC confirming the organic content of that specific order.

We share our OCS scope certificate on request, and issue a Transaction Certificate for each order.

It means the organic content and its traceability are independently verified – a claim you can stand behind, not just a label. Many manufacturers claim organic cotton, but without OCS certification and a Transaction Certificate there is no way to be sure.

OCS covers the full chain of custody – from the certified organic input through every processing stage to the finished bag. We certify the finished bags, not only the fabric.

OCS verifies organic content and traceability only; GOTS additionally certifies the environmental and social criteria of processing (chemicals, wastewater, labour). A key point of difference: GOTS is only available when organic content is at least 70% (“made with organic”) or 95%+ (“organic”). So a blend such as 70% Lyocell and 30% organic cotton will not meet GOTS, whereas OCS will certify and confirm the 30% organic cotton content. Norquest holds both.

Both use the same chain-of-custody model. OCS verifies organically grown content; GRS verifies recycled content. Norquest holds both.

Ask for the supplier’s OCS scope certificate from an accredited certification body and check it on the register. We provide ours on request.
