GOTS-Certified Organic Cotton Bags - Certified Organic from Field to Finished Bag.

Norquest is a GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certified manufacturer of organic cotton bags, supplying brands, retailers and buying houses in 62+ countries. GOTS is the recognised gold standard for organic textiles - it certifies not just that the cotton is organic, but the environmental and social criteria of how it is processed, all the way to the finished bag, with a Transaction Certificate for each order. We were one of the early adopters of organic certification in India.

What GOTS Certifies

GOTS (managed by Global Standard) is the leading certification for organic textiles. It goes beyond organic content to certify the whole process - through an annual third-party audit and a Transaction Certificate for each order.

  • A minimum of 70% certified organic cotton for the “made with organic” grade, and 95%+ for the “organic” grade.
  • Restrictions on hazardous chemicals and dyes, no GMOs, and wastewater-treatment requirements throughout processing.
  • Labour standards based on the core ILO conventions across the supply chain.
  • Organic material is traced from the certified farm to the finished bag, with a TC issued for each order.
  • Certified and audited annually by an accredited certification body.

GOTS vs OCS (and vs GRS)

Buyers often confuse these. They verify different things.

  • Certifies organic fibre and the environmental and social criteria of processing (chemicals, wastewater, labour). It is the fuller organic standard – the one most brands and regulators recognise for a strong organic claim. GOTS is only available when organic content is at least 70% (“made with organic”) or 95%+ (“organic”).
  • Verifies organic content and traceability only – how much certified-organic cotton is in the bag – without the processing, environmental or social criteria. So a blend such as 70% Lyocell and 30% organic cotton will not meet GOTS, but OCS will still certify and confirm the 30% organic cotton content.
  • The recycled equivalent – the same chain-of-custody model, but for recycled (not organic) content.

Norquest holds GOTS, OCS and GRS, so you can specify full organic processing (GOTS), verified organic content (OCS), or recycled content (GRS) - each with a Transaction Certificate.

How to Verify GOTS Organic Cotton

Two checks separate a real organic claim from an unverifiable one. Ask any supplier for both.

GOTS Scope Certificate

The supplier must hold a valid GOTS Scope Certificate in their own name, from an accredited certification body. You can check it on the GOTS public database. No supplier can make a GOTS claim without one.

GOTS Transaction Certificate (TC)

The scope certificate is necessary but not sufficient. Each individual order should be accompanied by a TC confirming the organic content of that specific order.

We share our GOTS scope certificate on request, and issue a Transaction Certificate for each order.
